CLAP PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Notice of update: On July 27, 2026 we updated this Policy to describe our optional Data Missions program. Nothing changes for you unless you choose to participate in a Data Mission. Questions: privacy@clap.gg.
1) Who we are and scope
- We provide a platform for user‑generated “challenges” that may involve video, audio, images, and text submissions. Our Services are for individuals 18+ only.
2) Information we collect
- Account & contact. Name, username, phone number, email, DOB (month/year) or 18+ flag, and settings.
- Content. Videos, audio, images, text, and related metadata (e.g., device type, duration, frame rate, network quality).
- Usage & device. Logs, diagnostics, IP address, device/OS identifiers, app version, cookies/SDK events, crash reports, approximate location (from IP), challenge interactions, and viewing metrics.
- Payments & prizes. Payout details you provide (e.g., W‑9/TIN, postal address) and prize delivery status.
- Reports & communications. Messages you send us (support, reports, feedback) and moderation signals.
3) How we use information
- Provide and secure the Services; authenticate users; enable submissions and judging; prevent fraud and cheating; enforce policies; communicate with you; and comply with law.
- AI training. By default, your content is not used to train AI models. Responses submitted under a Data Mission may be used by Clap and by vetted third‑party AI developers for training, evaluation, and research, subject to contractual limits (no resale, no re‑identification, and security requirements). Participation in Data Missions is optional and can be withdrawn at any time.
- Analytics. We analyze aggregated and de‑identified data to improve features and safety. We do not sell your personal information, except that participation in a Data Mission may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under certain state privacy laws. You control this choice and may decline or withdraw at any time. We honor “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” requests at privacy@clap.gg.
4) Sharing
- Vendors. Service providers for hosting, storage, security, analytics, content processing (including AI scoring vendors), messaging, payments, and prize fulfillment.
- Sponsors. When you enter a prize challenge hosted by a third‑party Sponsor, we may share what is necessary to administer the challenge.
- AI research partners (Data Missions only). If you participate in a Data Mission, we may share the specific responses you submitted (recordings, transcripts, labels, and related metadata) with third‑party AI developers under written agreements that prohibit re‑identification, resale, and use outside the licensed purpose. We never share Private content or any responses outside of Data Missions.
- Legal/safety. To comply with law, protect rights and safety, or respond to lawful requests.
5) Your choices & controls
- Privacy controls. You can mark clips Private. Private clips are excluded from promotional use unless you later opt in.
- Data Missions. Data Missions are optional and off by default. You can participate on a per‑challenge basis or enable an account‑level preference. Withdraw at any time in settings or by emailing privacy@clap.gg; we stop future licensing immediately and instruct existing licensees to delete where feasible.
- Access, correction, deletion. Email privacy@clap.gg to exercise rights such as access or deletion. Where applicable law provides additional rights (e.g., California), we honor those rights.
- Marketing. You can opt out of non‑essential emails in‑app or via unsubscribe links.
6) Cookies, SDKs, and viewing data
- We use cookies/SDKs for core functions, security, and analytics. We do not share identified video viewing data with third‑party ad networks without your consent. You can control certain technologies via your device settings and in‑app controls (where available).
7) Retention
To align with operational reality while protecting user privacy:
- Raw submission media (video/audio): retained up to 12 months after submission unless you delete sooner. We are building auto‑delete features; until then, retention is enforced through internal processes.
- Derived artifacts (thumbnails, transcodes, scores, logs): retained up to 24 months to support safety, integrity, abuse investigations, and service improvement.
- Backups: encrypted backups may persist for up to 35 days.
- Data Mission responses: retained for the duration of the applicable license, then deleted or de‑identified. Withdrawal ends inclusion in future datasets; see Your choices & controls for the effect on datasets already delivered.
- We delete or de‑identify data when no longer needed for the purposes above or as required by law.
8) Your state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or opt out of sales or sharing of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. The categories we collect and the parties we share with (including AI research partners under Data Missions) are described above. To exercise any right, email privacy@clap.gg or use in‑app settings. We will verify and respond as required by law. Authorized agents may be used where permitted.
9) Children
Our Services are for 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
10) Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring. No system is 100% secure.
11) International users
We currently operate for users located in the United States. If you access the Services from other regions, you are responsible for compliance with your local laws.
12) Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting in‑app or contacting you.
